Starting an eBay sales business. Suggestions please? I am an employee for a home and garden business. We have decided to start selling some of our products online using eBay. I have been tasked by the owner to prepare the necessary steps to do this. I am familiar with computers and eBay buying, but not eBay selling. I would appreciate suggestions on how to organize and execute this. Things I am interested in are: -Whether we should only take PayPal, or other forms of payment as well. -If we should include a refund/return policy. -How to determine if the buyer lives in our state (Washington), and then how we should go about charging state sales task. -A reliable method of packaging and shipping. -Any other useful information. Recommendations on good packaging and shipping companies would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your help and suggestions.

What kind of knowledge is most valuable to a regular, business ebay seller? Situation: A regular, professional, business ebay seller with lots of listings active (100+) at all times, sells many items within their specific product range. All items are re-stocked regularly and all listings re-list automatically when they've ended or sold out. Meaning their product range and stocking habits are similar to those of a high street shop. It's a genuine sales business with all the ongoing issues regular businesses have. Question is: What type(s) of information would or should or COULD be most valuable to a seller like this who is expanding their business each month? Reason I'm asking is I'm developping a website that gives info valuable to ebay sellers. I've seen most of the ebay seller tools out there and mine has a slant no others seem to cover. Has anyone started an Ebay business and how successful have you been? I am a mom of 4 chidren and have recently posted some items for sale on Ebay. I've heard that a lot of people have had success doing this. I'm concerned though that no one is bidding on my items because I don't have a rating score yet. How will anyone trust that I will ship them the merchandise they purchased or that I'm legitimate. I know I would be skeptical to purchase anything from someone w/ no rating score. Can anyone give me any tips. I'd love to hear some success stories! I'm not looking to be rich. Just make some extra spending cash for the kid's and myself. Is there a book or a simple program that would show me how to keep the books for a small ebay business? Inventory costs, ebay fees, paypal fees, sales tax, shipping and handling, etc. I am clueless. I haven't started the business yet. Is there a book that shows sample books for an online store. Would it include keeping track of sales tax? I saw some simple software a while ago, but it did not include a section for sales tax. How would I keep tract of that? Also, is it possible to keep tract of the books using an Excel spreadsheet? Reporting ebay sales on taxes... Is this something we have to do if we are not a business? I've sold a handful of things around the house over the last year over ebay and am looking for actual evidence on the web that says we have to report it, if we are not a business. I don't really do this as a hobby either... its just a once in a while thing. If I have to report it, then fine, but I am looking for any SPECIFIC info you can find that says we HAVE to report it. I read an article that Ebay does not report sales to the IRS and really has no way of tracking if payments are made and how much money is actually changing hands... so... what do we do? So, lets say I bought somehting for $50 and sold it for $90 on ebay. (And already paid my state taxes when I bought it) Then I would have to pay taxes on the additional $40?

Buying an online business on EBay, is it really worth it? I felt a bit curious to see what people would go to the extent of selling on EBay and found that people are selling online businesses. Are they worth buying ? are there any success stories, or is it better to start from scratch. I have fair skills in html, photoshop, and flash, and I have created websites in the past, infact many of the business designs for sale seem tacky, but there whole way of putting together with php and stuff, i figure that might take a while to study, is it worth studying it? instead of buying pre-made busineses that I might even end up getting bored with through lack of customers.
They say the postal service is losing business, but do you think Ebay helps it? I heard that over the past decade the post office lost a lot of business because people now use e-mail instead of regular mail, but 80% of items shipped in Ebay sales use the US Post Office, plus packages cost more than regular letter stamps. Can you still make money with an Ebay business? I'm a former Ebayer who sold for about a year on the site, which I loved doing. However, even though my sales were decent (around $5,000/month in home electronics), my actual profits were extremely thin or non-existent because of the fierce competition (this was about 2 years ago). I'm starting law school next summer, and I want to set up a viable business that will help me avoid a job in my first year of classes. Is it still possible to make legitimate, consistent profits with an Ebay business, or has competition pretty much done away with that? *** I only want to hear from people with Ebay experience, who can directly answer my question. Small business eBay. LLC or S-Corp, which one is better? I am currently doing business on eBay selling small electronic items. I buy in bulk and sell retail. I am thinking of registering for a company and get a sales tax ID. Which one do you think is better, LLC or S-Corp? Currently I do all things by myself and profit is about $3K/mo. I know that from tax perspective S-Corp is more beneficial, but LLC is less paperwork thus less complicated. Ebay sales taking off, but I'm getting burnt out! Need tips on maximizing productivity and minimizing time. My ebay business is doing really well, but I'm going crazy with all of the work it entails. I just moved to a new city so I don't really know anyone that can help me out, so I'm having to do all of the work myself (I'm actually able to do this full-time). my wife loves ebay, how can i turn this home based business of online sales in my favor come tax time? She's sold about $30 worth of items in 2006, (none in the state of NY where we live, so she doesn't even have to pay tax on those sales..right?) Yet we have lots of expenses we go through for this "home business" that she's started, (heat, electric, phone, etc..) she keeps all the transactions seperate by using (paypal). so i shouldn't have a problem filing a schedule C right?? My buddies keep telling me that the law doesn't state that you "have to make money", but i feel weird stating that we only made 30 bucks and yet deduct a couple hundred in expenses... what do you think?? I just called the IRS and the lady yelled at me! said i had to have re-occuring sales every couple of weeks and can't go around selling my junk instead i'd have to purchase items and sell for profit. Anyone making a living selling on Ebay? I am considering starting an Ebay events ticket sale business. Has anyone here actually made a living or close to a living selling items or tickets on Ebay? I am particularly interested in selling event tickets. The reason I mention this product is because of a previous experience I had selling concert tickets I purchased but was unable to attend the event. The seats to the event were good (center stage, just off the floor) and I was able to sell the tickets for twice the cost. Pretty impressive profit margin. Occasional Ebay seller - which income tax form should I use? I only sell on Ebay occasionally, clearing out old stuff from the house. But a few things I sold turned out to be in demand, so I ended up making about $600. Which tax form should I use to report this? The Schedule C business form says only to use that form for business done on a regular basis, not to use that form for reporting hobby income, but to use the 'line 21 for other expenses' to report it instead. But the explanations for line 21 don't fit either. Do I need to attach a form? The IRS web site mentions ebay earnings as business expenses or capital gains...but the capital gains form doesn't look like it applies to ebay sales at all. I just can't understand all this IRS mumbo-jumbo - can someone please help me? I can't afford to hire a CPA, but I don't want to get into trouble for not reporting income

Hello! Does buying/ re-selling stuff on ebay need a seller's permit and/ or business license (CA)? Hello, I live in California. I will be putting lots of things up for sale constantly so it wont be like a couple things a year, etc. I like that with Business you can print out statements... but dont know if I need something so in depth. Business or Premier?

registering as a business due to ebay sales? i sell my designs on ebay (i am a design student). i make about £500 a month in total (not net profit). do i need to register with the government? and with ebay? thanks just asking because i opened a thread on the community boards and got a lot of 'blah... why should you get away not paying tax... blah...' angry messages... some people on there are so defensive and angry :( it was a bit upsetting really... lol yes i really should! silly of me eh. ieven got some people trying to trick me and getting all superioristic with their amazing knowledge of ebay :s i will register when it enters the tax boundraries, but until then i don't see the point. i just want to see what people think of my designs :). thanks!
Do You Need A Business License To Be An Ebay Seller? Should an Ebay Seller have a business license? I've been reporting my sales income on my taxes for the last 5 yrs, both State and federal.
Is it worth starting an eBay business/shop currently? I would like to start trading more on eBay and perhaps open a shop there, but was wondering does anyone know if it is likely to make a profit now that the shop rental has gone up to 15 pounds, and adding on all the extra fees. Is it better just to list auctions without a shop, or do the shops increase your sales enough? Thank you :)
