How can I get a government job that allows telecommuting? I would really like to work from home but enjoy the benefits of telecommuting with the government. Also, does anyone know of possible contracting positions with the federal government. I hear contractors tend to make more money than actual civil service.
Does Telecommuting give me any tax advantages? So I've looked and looked and can't seem to find anything about this. I've been working for a company over the past year. This company doesn't have an office so I do my work from home (telecoummuting). I'm full time with benefits and all, but I feel like there should be some things I can deduct from my taxes since I'm using all my own equipment, electricity and space. Does anyone know what tax advantages I can get? Thanks

Anyone out there know of a good telecommuting job that pays well? i have 3yrs exp w directv at home...? I am an advanced technical specialist for directv and thoroughly enjoy my job but they are really asking alot lately considering their recent changes...additional fees for the hd programming -additional commitments for activating replacement recvrs-and all ts ending with $80 service calls...Morally i cannot work for this company. i have to find another job...and i prefer to have the luxury of working from home witha consistant paycheck and benefits..Im in oklahoma city....Help!!!
Would you be willing to write your Representatives? Let them know that there is an immediate way to lower gas prices. Hundreds of thousands of employees are capable of telecommuting. However, businesses don't necessarily encourage this as much as they could and should. Would you be willing to write to your representative to recommend that they encourage businesses to adopt pro-telecommuting policies when possible? The decreased demand for gasoline would be of benefit to us all. While I realize that this is not strictly a "governmental" issue, it does carry weight with business leaders when politicians say, "Boy, we'd really appreciate it if you helped us out with this situation...", especially when it costs the business leaders nothing to look patriotic. And when people are pawning their stuff to buy gas to get to work so they can pay their bills, I consider that a pretty big deal-- and so do the politicians right now.

Legit Work From Home? I am looking to make a decent salary with a legitimate telecommuting position - no stuffing envelopes, paying for a list, taking surveys but a real job with a company that exists outside the internet and has benefits. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Barack Obama DROPS TAXES!!!!? Barack Obama's Plan Support Working Families Provide a "Making Work Pay Tax Cut" for America's Working Families: American people work longer and harder than those in any other wealthy nation in the world. But their hours are getting longer and their wages aren't getting any higher. In addition they are being squeezed by rising health care, education and energy costs. Rather than relieving the burden on working families, the current administration has provided tax cut after tax cut to the wealthiest Americans and enacted tax breaks for the most well-connected corporations. Barack Obama will restore fairness to the tax code and provide 150 million workers the tax relief they deserve. Obama will create a new "Making Work Pay" tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. This refundable income tax credit will provide direct relief to American families who face the regressive payroll tax system. It will offset the payroll tax on the first $8,100 of their earnings while still preserving the important principle of a dedicated revenue source for Social Security. The "Making Work Pay" tax credit will completely eliminate income taxes for 10 million Americans. The tax credit will also provide relief to self-employed small business owners who struggle to pay both the employee and employer portion of the payroll tax. The "Making Work Pay" tax credit offsets some of this self-employment tax as well. Provide a Living Wage: Barack Obama believes that people who work full time should not live in poverty. Before the Democrats took back Congress, the minimum wage had not changed in 10 years. Even though the minimum wage will rise to $7.25 an hour by 2009, the minimum wage's real purchasing power will still be below what it was in 1968. As president, Obama would further raise the minimum wage, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers can earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs such as food, transportation, and housing -- things so many people take for granted. Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit: In both the Illinois State Senate and the U.S. Senate, Obama has championed efforts to expand the EITC, which is one of the most successful anti-poverty programs to date. As president, Obama will reward work by increasing the number of working parents eligible for EITC benefits, increasing the benefit available to parents who support their children through child support payments, and reducing the EITC marriage penalty which hurts low-income families. If the workers are responsibly supporting their children on child support, the Obama plan would give those workers a benefit of $1,110. Expand Paid Sick Days: Half of all private sector workers have no paid sick days and the problem is worse for employees in low-paying jobs, where less than a quarter receive any paid sick days. Barack Obama will require that employers provide seven paid sick days per year. Expand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): The FMLA covers only certain employees of employers with 50 or more employees. are there any real compueter jobs i could do from home on a pc ingraphic/web design or anything else at all!? I have a tendency to work better alone than with others and i want to explore a new computer oriented career. are there jobs that would allow me to make a decent yearly salary telecommuting or working from home on a pc. i dont mean taking online surveys! i mean working for a legitimate company with a salary and benefits working in my home pc. the reason i ask is because i am a good worker and very talented and intelligent but have a hard time in the workplace and tend to get stressed out unless i am just left alone to work with myself. i would love to work on a computer doing web design graphic design but am not closed off to other ideas. i would further my education to do this (only have 2 year music degree), and i am a pretty fast typist ( forgive spelling here) but this is also cause i want to start building another business on my owm slowly and need solid income.but being sort of gorophobic is this an even a remote possibility. thanks for all the input it is very much appreciated
Can I pay an employee a commission based on the services performed in the state of New York? I.E., pay by the job, versus by the hour? I am a small business owner and I would benefit more from paying a commissioned salary versus paying by the hour. So, no work no pay. This will basically be a telecommuting job. Also, can regular deductions be made just as they are done when the employee is paid by the hour? Please provide as much info as possible. Thanks! OK, in case I did not make myself clear in my initial question, I plan on paying an employee on commission, this means that if he does *NOT* work, he does *NOT* get paid, he will be working from home, will be on call, any calls I get for work he can do, I pass on to him. How is that "stiffing" him? Furthermore, he's ok with a commission. He would actually get paid *less* if he was paid by the hour.
