What are some good (free) online resources for finding freelance writing jobs? I all ready visit Writersrow.Com on a daily basis for freelance writing job leads, which often leads me to Craigslist.Org postings, but I am wondering if anyone in the Yahoo! Answers community knows of other sites that I can visit that don't require I be a member or subscribe to a service to contact people. I also try looking at MySpace Classifieds, my local online classifieds, Monster.Com, etc, but I'm usually disappointed with my results. What I'm looking for are the more "underground" websites - nothing main stream, that are safe and reliable sources for me to find freelance work. Because I refuse to work for a paycheck and I refuse to give up half my paycheck to put gas in a car that I, honestly, don't have. :) Thanks for your help!
Where can I find freelance writing jobs? Particularly in Australia? I am based in Brisbane, have more than a decade's experience as a newspaper journalist, sub-editor and design editor. I'm planning to start freelancing part-time to develop a side income but am unsure just how to go about finding freelance work. Are there any websites where such assignments are advertised? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions? My speciality subject is cricket, although I'm very keen to also write fitness, lifestyle and human interest pieces. Actually, anything pretty much.

How do I find higher paying jobs for freelance writing part-time? I've been freelance writing for about two months now. Yes I have done some research, and still there's still lots more to do. By testing the waters it seems as though the best start I know is to write for essay sites. Most of the review sites don't pay much money. I like Helium Knowledge, but it's slow. To me that site is where I can develop my skills and evaluate topics that people are interested in hearing. Currently I'm preparing writing samples and thinking about submitting my articles to article distribution sites. Are there any other steps that I could take to build up my portfolio and get paid as well? I've also heard about freelance work exchange, some people applaud the site, others say it's a waste of time. Any one else know about freelance work exchange?
Good sources or ideas for freelance writing and editing jobs? My mom is a freelance writer with years of nonfiction essay writing and editing experience. Online Freelance Writing Jobs? For those of you who have found freelance writing jobs online, have you ever had to "hand over" your rights as the author? I have been asked to write 5 articles and will be paid $2.30 for each 550 word article (ridiculously low??). Upon submission, the authoring rights are passed over to the company who will pay me. Is this standard? It seems a little shady to me.

What is the correct way to declare freelance income? I have a regular part time job with the normal tax issues, but I recently accepted a very small freelance writing job as well. I am unsure how to deal with the taxes and social security stuff with this. The job required me to send in a W-9, but I understand this to be only for their records. What is the right way to declare my income for the freelance job, and how do I withhold the right social security etc.? I am completely lost on this, but I want to make sure that I follow all the rules properly. Thanks in advance!
Freelance writing for high schoolers? I am a soon-to-be Sophmore in high school, and I'm one of the many teenagers searching for a summer job. I have a hard time getting rides to places because of my parents' full time jobs, so I know that whatever I do it will have to be very close to home. I love to write, so what better to suit my circumstance than an online freelance writing job? The only problem with that is, I don't know where to look. I've tried Craigslist and all of the people advertising there need people with experience and college degrees. I am an established writer, especially for my age, and I want to be able to use that to my advantage. Any ideas?

18 year old high school senior freelance writing for a website? I'll get straight to the point. Basically, I have written for my high school newspaper for three years, and have received much praise for my articles. I have also been looking for a part time job to earn some extra money before I go off to college. I saw an ad on Facebook for this site called Suite101.com which pays people for articles (if they get published), and I thought that it would be a nice gig for me. The way I see it is why work at a place like Popeye's chicken when I can get paid writing about the things I love in the comfort of my own home? Does anyone have any info on these so called sites or any suggestions/advice about my consideration for pursuing a freelance writing job for this website at my age (since it seems like most freelance writers these days are older)?

What is the going hourly rate for freelance writing/PR? I have an opportunity to take a 6-week freelance gig that would require writing of newsletters, press releases, website copy and other PR needs. Can anyone tell me the range of hourly freelance rates -- particularly in the Atlanta area if possible? I just underwent a layoff, so this would be a great chance to earn some money while I continue my job search. Thanks for your advice! Please note that this is a contract position where I would be working on-site, on multiple projects for four to six weeks. As such, I anticipate being asked my hourly rate. It's likely they will consider me a "temporary worker". Thanks! :-)

Anyone here who's found a fair to well-paying freelance writing job through Freelance.com? I'm in need of a typing, writing, proof-reading job. I want to start work from home really soon. I've been procrastinating about sending my $2.95 fee to a company called Freelance.com for nearly 2 years, now. So far, I have met at least one person face to face who has a wee bit more knowledge of how it works. I've not joined Freelance.com for one main little reason. I have no credit card and not sure how Pay-pal works, either. Is there anyone here who would be willing and able to share a few encouraging words, helpful hints, based on your own personal experience? Please. (Let me put it this way--someone here owns Boardwalk and Park Place with at least a house or two on one or the other. And, I don't even own a measly yellow or green deed. Can barely afford to take a ride on the Reading or B&O. Need work. Please, help me with some guidance & helpful suggestions. Whether or not you like my analogy. OK?)

Does anyone know of any freelance writing jobs similar to about.com guides? I am looking for a steady writing or blogging job. The about.com guide positions are perfect for what I am looking for, both monetarily and content wise, but they don't currently have openings for topics I am interested in writing about. I have done a lot of freelance writing that was entertainment based, featurey, and 20 somethings ish (think cosmo), and I would like to find a steady writing/blogging job where I could make between 600-1,000 a month. Any ideas? I am sure there are websites or publications I am missing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
