Does anyone know of any legitimate online writing jobs?

If posssible, please refer me to a company that you actually work with.

Public Comments

1. There aren't any such companies. Don't fall for a scam.

2. There are online publishers, such as Slate, that pay their contributors. But writing for them on a freelance basis or as a staff writer is every bit as hard to break into as writing for a magazine that is printed on paper.

For a staff job, you would first have to establish writing credits through freelance publications. As far as where to look, you'd be better off by starting with the question of what you're interested in writing about. Then see if there are any magazines or web sites devoted to that topic that are also paying markets for freelancers.

A book about magazine writing would give you a pretty good idea about how to proceed, whether you're ultimately aiming at writing for a paper publication or a web-based one. Lots of people aspire to do this work, so the competition is intense and the pay, except for at the very top, is not very good.
